hotel pennsylvania
New York, Ny
As a study for the Vornado Group, Atelier & Co. created this design to turn the Hotel Pennsylvania - a 2,000 room railway hotel designed by McKim Mead & White as part of the Pennsylvania Station development - into multiple boutique hotels, united by a new lobby in the form of a Parisian arcade.
The proposal brought new skylights deep into the interior by exploiting the existing light courts and interstitial storage space. A series of elegant shopfronts along a black and white marble floor linked the new hotel lobbies, while a large skylit rotunda and double height loggia to the lower level marketplace were introduced to create major features anchoring the arcade experience.
