American collector
Westchester, Ny
This modest colonial revival home in Westchester houses a unique collection of eighteenth and nineteenth American decorative arts, and a complementary collection of fine Asian bronzes. The program called for an addition to house the growing collection, and a separate live-in guest pavilion on the ground floor.
The new spaces were inspired by aspects of the Soane Museum in London, as well as by American Federal domestic architecture. A new oval spiral stair was added, connecting the formal rooms with the lower level guest quarters. Colored restoration glass was used in the traditional 'monitor' skylights, bringing splashes of colored light deep into the interiors. Decoration by Jayne Design Studio and featured in House & Garden.
